The Cubs acquired right-hander Eddie Butler from the Rockies in exchange for right-hander James Farris, the team announced Wednesday.

The deal also included an exchange of international bonus money slots, with the Cubs sending bonus money slot No. 28 to the Rockies for bonus money slot No. 74.

The Cubs designated for assignment right-hander Dylan Floro to make room for Butler.

Butler, 25, has made 36 appearances, including 28 starts, over parts of three major-league seasons with the Rockies. He owns a career 6.50 ERA over 159 1/3 innings. He made nine starts and eight relief appearances in 2016, posting a 7.17 ERA with 13 home runs, 21 walks and 47 strikeouts in 64 innings. He was a supplemental first-round draft pick in 2012.

Farris, 24, owned a 2.91 ERA over 88 minor-league relief appearances in the Cubs system. He reached the Double-A level in 2016, posting a 2.75 ERA in 26 relief appearances.
