U.S. Senate honors World Series champion Chicago Cubs – Chicago Tribune

The World Series champion Chicago Cubs have been honored on the floor of the U.S. Senate.

U.S. Sens. Dick Durbin and Mark Kirk of Illinois introduced a resolution on Wednesday congratulating the team, the city of Chicago and dozens of people who made the title possible.

The Cubs defeated Cleveland in seven games to win the team’s first World Series in 108 years.

Speaking on the floor of the Senate, Durbin said “At long last the Chicago Cubs are back on top.” Kirk says “No one deserves this championship more than the best fans in the country.”

Indiana U.S. Sens. Joe Donnelly and Dan Coats were co-sponsors.

Donnelly says the Cubs brought “tremendous pride” to Chicago and to many fans “in Indiana and across the country.”
